Two winners at once
Two winners at once! The unexpected denouement in the Boys A 3m springboard final. Dongmin Joung, the leader of the prelims with 533.60 points, in the final didn’t manage with his most difficult dive – 5156 B – forward 2 ½ Somersaults Triple Twist and finished at 11th position. Kawan Figueredo Pereira, Brazil, and Danylo Konovalov, Ukraine, ended up scoring the same number of points and shared the highest place on the podium. Colombian Leonardo Garcia Valera became the bronze medalist with 521.95 points.
Danylo Konovalov, Ukraine, the Boys 3 meters springboard winner: «I was hoping to get the medal, I did everything for this and learnt as much as possible in training. In the previous round I did not get only one jump – 307 C – Reverse 3 ½ Somersaults –and I thought that if these points are added to the final score, I will be one of the medalists. I am very pleased to be the first. I want to dedicate my award to my first coach Valentina Vepryk and to Olena Bezrukova, who is currently coaching me, and all those coaches who are in Kyiv and who have supported and helped».
Kawan FIGUEREDO PEREIRA, Brazil, a Boys 3 meters springboard winner: “I am very happy, it is not my main discipline, because I am a platform diver. But I have some goals here, and I think I achieved one of these. Next will be on a platform, I hope. The secret of every diver is calmness, patience and listening to what your coach said. I don’t mind being one of the two champions, we both worked hard and deserve it. “
Leonardo GARCIA VARELA, Colombia, A Boys 3 meters springboard bronze medalist: «I have been working very hard for this, I trusted in myself and all the work I have done before. I was not sure if I get the medal, but I was aiming for this. It was a comeback for me since I had an injury before. Returning after an injury and getting a medal are such great emotions. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I was a bronze medalist in the Panamerican games. Definitely, it is my first medal on world championships.»
Russia, with two divers and Spain, were the other 3 nations in the Top 6, as their divers got overall from 500.15 to 484.45 points.
